Best Date Ever

Last night could not have gone better!! Tommy and I had so much fun. It started with a hitch - I totally forgot his blanket at daycare (I cannot stress enough how bad this is). We went to Target to get a replacement - of course they don't carry it anymore....but we had fun at target - Tommy proudly carried a basket all over the store.

I took him to Babies R Us and let him pick out a replacement - fortunately that worked and he actually seems to like the "New Blanket" a lot. I also picked out a great truck book for him to take with us to dinner.

Due to the blanket search, we ended up no where near Cracker Barrel, so I took him to Applebee's instead. I am not normally a big fan, but dinner was actually pretty nice. Tommy was so amazingly well behaved, we looked at his book while waiting for dinner, and actually managed to eat and enjoy our meal. I was so proud of my little guy.

Next we were off to Build A Bear. We had never been before, it was wonderful. It took Tommy no time to pick out a Penguin (he love penguins). I wasn't sure if he would do all the little things with the heart, but he did and he loved stepping on the peddal to fill it up with fluff. After a quick little bath, we picked out an adorable rocker outfit and paid (boy did we pay!!) As for the name of our new little friend, well, its Penguin. Tommy is a very formal little boy - his blanket is "Blanket" not lovey or woobee or anything like that, his bottle was always "bottle", everything is called its proper name, therefore his new stuffed penguin wouldn't be called anything but Penguin!! Part of me wishes I had gotten pics of him at Build-A-Bear, but I decided that it was more important for me to experience every moment with him instead of taking pictures of him.

We topped the night off with desert at Ben and Jerry's. Being a chocolate ice cream fan, I asked Tommy if he would like chocolate too - "NO!! I want white ice cream!!" I took that to mean vanilla, fortunately I was right. We found a quiet bench and had a nice time just eating our ice cream and playing with Penguin.

When we got home, it was a little late for him (8:30) but having just had ice cream and having had such a great night, we decided that a movie would be much more fun than bed, so we snuggled up on the couch, in our PJs and watched Madagascar (dozed on and off). It was perfect. At 10:30 I finally gave in to my logical half, the good parent in me, and finally called an end to the night and put my little man to bed.

Last night was the night that, before we became parents, we would dream about, the special little nights that make every little battle, every tantrum, just a faint memory. Last night was a night we both needed - it has been so long since Tommy has had this special time with his mommy, I am glad I took the time to do this with him. I can't wait for us to do it again!!!

Tommy's new blanket is the same one that both of my girls have. We have four of them. We couldn't live without our bb's!

  6. Aww, I'm glad you had such a great time. Having had such issues with my back, I know just how special and amazing those mommy/child times are. So glad you had fun at Build-A-Bear! We did that a few months back and although I'm not sure she got the full concept of it (it is a little overwhelming!), and we definitely paid!, it was so much fun for all of us. She still uses the box we took her bear home in to house "other" animal friends!
