I Am That Mother

* I let my boys watch too much TV - they are far to young to be watching anyway.

* I lose my temper sometimes, this means I yell sometimes
* Dinner isn't always homemade, sometimes we eat frozen pizza, sometimes we order pizza
* Yes we eat at McDonald's - not often, but sometimes a Happy Meal is just a nice treat
* I don't read to my boys as often as I should
* Sometimes breakfast is a cup of milk for each boy and a big bowl of dry cereal to share, while mommy sleeps a little more on the couch
*My 3 year old is not potty trained and despite my efforts is no where closer to getting there
*I do not make them eat their veggies all of the time
* My laundry piles are larger than my children

I am an awful mom - because worst of all....

*I have taught my boys to be polite and kind, they say please and thank you (in fact they HAVE TO)
*They get put in time out when they disobey (no hitting or biting), we have spanked bottoms
* We expect them to treat us with respect
* They do not get every toy they want and we give their old toys away
*They are expected to be kind to everyone and everything - people and animals, regardless of what they look or sound like, or who they are
* I make them help clean up, pick up their toys, books, puzzles
* I make them figure things out for themselves, no matter how frustrated they get

Yup, I'm terrible....but that's ok I love my boys unconditionally - even on the bad why-did-I-have-kids days. They are my heart and soul, and I make sure that I tell them how much I love them as often as I can.

I'm a horrible mom...you can tell just by looking at how miserable my kids are!!

Yup it sucks to be my boys!!

  1. Wonderful photos. They are so happy! Happy WW :O)

  2. Well, then I'll have to join your club!!! :)

  3. They are very fortunate boys and I love this post! Happy WW!

  4. I think I'm going to disagree her e- Your boys are SO lucky - you are awesome - super awesome!

and just tonight I gave my kids McDs for dinner (the first time in a looong time though)

    how's your summer going???

  5. Well, I hope you'll continue to be just that awful then! :)

  6. Ha, love your post and and have to join you in your horrible mom club, lol. Awesome pics by the way, they boys are getting so big.

  7. I guess I am a no good very bad mommy! I am GUILTY!

    Your boys are handsome!

  8. I am that Mom too. Cute pictures.

  9. Oh good, I'm not alone...I am that Mom, too! Keep being 'awful', it looks like it's working like a charm! ;)

    Happy WW! :)

  10. I don't trust the "perfect mom". The one who never looses her temper, feeds her children completely healthy meals at all times and doesn't use the TV as an occasional baby sitter. ;o)

  11. What a great post! It reminded me to remember all of the wonderful things I do when I am being hard on myself. Your boys are blessed and so are you.

  12. Great photos! Yup! They look pretty miserable! ;-)

  13. yep, they look miserable. Just about as bad as my boys. lol

  14. Sounds like I'm a pretty horrible one myself then too! ; )

  15. LOL! I guess I'm glad to be a bad mommy too!

  16. You sound like a great mom to me!

  17. Sounds to me like it is TOTALLY OK to have piles of laundry everywhere and dirty dishes in the sink. We only get one chance to make our boys MEN!!!! ;)

  18. You and I sound an awful lot alike. Now wonder why I like you! :)

  19. I don't care if you don't make them eat their veggies as long as you keep making them be polite and respectful! We need more kids like that!

  20. Haha your boys look pretty miserable!

  22. okay, so you wrote this ages ago, but I read it for the first time today (just came across your blog today!) and it was EXACTLY what I needed to read today. So thank you. My FOUR year old is not potty trained and I can't even begin to tell you how sick I am of reading about those precious children that sit on the potties while doing craft after craft and then eating an organic lunch followed by a nap in the family bed because that wonderful mama can't BE without her children for even A MINUTE. yeah, i am a little bitter today. ;)

It's just comforting to know that I am not alone - and therefore must not be THAT big of an ogre! - for my favorite time of day to be bedtime and to sometimes wonder WHY I wanted to have kids at all.....

so, again - thank you. It's obvious you're doing an amazing job, though... their eyes say it all! :)
