I LOVE taking my boys to the zoo - I HATE taking them in the summer (the crowds, the heat, the stink....)

This is the first time I have ever gone to the zoo in February...I think I have a new family tradition

It was fantastic - no crowds, half price, and the stink was at a minimum.

Even better was that I got to share the fun with my friend Felicia and her son Benjamin, and my friend Danielle, her hubby Josh, and hew two boys.  (if you are keeping tabs that's 5 boys between us - we all wonder if any daughters are in our future!!)

The boys got along great - and they loved having the space and freedom to run a bit, and we loved that they could run without getting lost or trampled in the crowd.

when he wasn't screaming at me to carry him
{which is fun to do while pushing his empty stroller}
Jack was making this happy and excited face!!

Tommy and the elephant skull
{we won't talk about the fact that he touched it
or the fact that Mommy almost freaked
when the skull almost fell...}

Jack and Ben contemplating the goats

"Look in there Mommy!!"

Do you know how hard it is to take a picture of a 3-year-old's face
When he is too busy looking at animals to even care that mommy wants a picture?!

Like I said it was a wonderful day - I am so happy we all got to go to the zoo together, and I am so grateful to have friends there with me to help me chase down my two very fast very excited little boys!!  I wish I had more pictures to share, but not to worry - tomorrow night I will share pics from Danielle - she took a ton of amazing shots and is sending them to me tonight.  {although if you want to see some of her pics now you can check out her blog and tell her how amazing her photos are and how incredibly adorable her children are!!}

Happy Wednesday All!!

  1. I love going to places like a zoo ion the off season! It's the best to get to enjoy without the crowds :)

    Adorable photos.

  2. The zoo is soo much fun! You got some great shots!

  3. Again, wish we could have gone with you guys! I could have added one girl to the mix!

  4. Your boys will totally remember these trips. So nice to have that time together.

  5. Thanks for your retweet the other day about the pregnant woman on the plane without water (Leftcoastman is also BigManWalking)! Just posted about my blog getting sponsored by Garden of Life and added your visual in the upper right corner (for a while). Have an ehhxcellent day!

  6. We rarely attend tourist attractions during the summer. February is our favorite time of the year to go to Disneyland.

  7. Looks like fun!!! I wish we had a zoo here. :-)

  8. I love the pictures that you took! they are so good! What a fun time to go to the zoo!

  9. We love the zoo too. We go in the fall and it is not too crowded around here. We have a membership and go all the time. Cute pictures. Those animals are so more important than Mom's camera. :)

  10. We love the zoo in the winter. Glad you all had a great time!!

  11. What a great idea. Why didn't I think to do that? Maybe we will head to the zoo before it's a sauna!

  12. We got zoo passes as a gift last Christmas (and again this year--whoohoo!) and went to use them Dec. 26. It was in the 50s and the kids had a blast. We've yet to go this year, but maybe we will head on over soon. The toddlers don't mind the cold nearly as much as I do, and it's always nice to practice letting them have some freedom without stressing over crowds.

    So anyone know when the aquarium is dead? We've gone once and with the crowds and dim lighting, haven't had the courage to back, even though everybody else loved it. (I am the official family wet blanket.)

  13. Ha! Your comment about how hard it is to take a picture of a kid looking at animals is so true!! It's even harder when they have a hood on!

    Winter at the zoo...what a great way to spend the day!

  14. priceless moments...
    Hey Liz :)!! been gone for ages but just now getting back into it xo

  15. Good for you for getting out in the cold! It looks like everyone had a blast!

  16. My sister goes to the zoo year round. She absolutely loves going when there's no crowds so winter is the perfect time for her and her family.

    Glad everyone had fun!

  17. I love the zoo! What a great idea to go in Feburary when its not super busy!

  18. I'm all for minimal stink...it's hard to accomplish in my household! ;-)

    I'm glad everyone had fun at the zoo...we used to take our boys when they were little and they LOVED it!
