Pen Pals for Preschoolers

Tommy is currently OBSESSED with getting mail.  Everyday he wants to check the mailbox.  He likes to look at everything we get and find out who it is for.

This got me thinking - how fun would it be for Tommy to get some mail just for himself.  My thought is not only will it be exciting for him to get  a letter just for him in the mail, but I also think that getting simple letters will encourage him to want to start learning to read, and helping write letters will help him want to learn to write more (so far he can write his name).

So now I am looking for another preschooler or two to be a little pen pal for my buddy.  (this could also give him a chance to learn about geography, seeing letters from other places and finding them on the map or globe).   If enough people are interested I would even be glad to connect you with each other if you would like.

The only rule I have right now is you must be a follower of my blog and/or I need to be familiar with you (not saying you have to comment daily or anything but I want to be certain you are who you say you are) obviously this is all for safety reason as we will be exchanging addresses.

Is anyone out there interested?  Do you think your little one(s) would like getting their own letters in the mail?

Leave me a comment if you are interested, and please make sure your email is enabled in your profile or leave me your email so I can contact you.

  1. I've been thinking the same thing lately. I've participated in several blog swaps & each time my youngest was so excited. She thought the boxes were for her.
I think it would be fun for the kids to mail things back & forth. Count me in!

  4. I used to be a member of a group that exchanges post cards. I got some from all over the world, Africa, Australia, Denmark. Look it up! It is called postcrossing.

  7. That's a great idea! We just participated in a sticker chain (?) where we send a packet of stickers to the first child on the list and then move up the 2nd child's name to #1 and add our child's name to #2... and send out. This way, each child gets mail addressed to him/her, with a packet of stickers inside. :)

  8. Um, It sounds like you have plenty of takers but I would love to play along with Yaya too. I know she loves getting cards in the mail. Let me know if you have enough takers.
