Better Body for BlogHer or Bust

In about 5 months I will be joining the throngs descending on NYC, for 4 days I will party, play, attend classes and in general enjoy myself with a massive group of bloggers.  Maybe its vain, but the thought of looking back at the pictures of myself at Blogher and not liking what I see, the idea of wandering around NYC tugging the hem of my skirts trying hard to hide my too-large thighs is less than appealing.

So here I am....5 months out....and making a plan. Motivated by the ever awesome Bored Mommy and her March to Blogher - I am coming here to make the commitment to myself to get fit.  To work on myself, body (and mind) so that I show up comfortable in my own skin.

I've dropped ~20 pounds since last December after Olivia was born, but I have another ~20 to go.   All last fall/winter I worked hard running, completing 4 5K races and dropping 8lbs...then Christmas and an increase in the intensity of hubby's school work led me to pack 7 of those pounds  back on, and all but completely hault my running.

This leads me to goal/step one of my March to Blogher plan...

  • Complete a half marathon.  I enjoyed training for the 5Ks and figured why not go for a long one.  In May (the 20th to be exact) I will be running in a local half marathon.  I am on week 1 of a 12 week program designed to get me up to running 13.1 miles (all in a row!!!)
 I figure for now I'll just start here.  I think right now that's enough.  I'm hoping as I train physically and get my body moving I will feel more motivated to work harder on my diet.  And at some point I need to figure out away to work on my emotional being as well.

So now...wish me luck....and if on May 21st you haven't heard from me - please someone remind my husband to take a drive along the race route just in case I've fallen along the way.

And OF COURSE - go check out Bored Mommy and wish her well in her March too!!  We can all use a little support in these things.

  1. Good luck!! Seems like a lot of us Rhodys are on a quest for better health by BlogHer. We will have to motivate each other. I'll cheer you and Kameron on from the sidelines though, running is not for me! ;)

    1. Thanks!! Its definitely going to be a lot of work for all of us!! I'm still in a bit of shock that I'm even going for this, but I'm determined to do well!! Want to represent little Rhody well!!

  2. It cracks me up that we both wrote this post yesterday! We will do this! I ran 3.1 miles tonight after work! I made myself go to the gym because I couldn't go today! We will do this!!!!

  3. I too am working so hard to get in shape! It's such a challenge for me though. My biggest trouble is snacking all day long. Ugh. We can all keep each other motivated though!

    1. For me its not the day time snacking - its the night time snacking, keeping myself occupied and distracted while hubby is at work can be hard so food it is.

  7. YES! You can totally do this! So excited for you. I'm running another half on March 31st, so we can continue to keep each other motivated as we train. You're gonna love the number 13.1, I promise!! :D
